My Fixie is finally done !!

The frame is an old Raleigh I found in England. Used to be white with some rust shining through.

It was delivered with the original track fork (painted that one too), but I kind of chickened out with a fork drilled for brakes.

This modification gives a longer wheelbase, slacker HTA and STA but keeps about the same trail as the original setup despite the road-forks longer rake. The geometry is therefore pretty much the same as my road-bike, except for the bigger stand-over height.

It's build up with a various selection of components. Some would say it's blasphemy not going full campa, but truth is. This started out as a budget project and it's gone way too far already

I reckon most of you can tell the components from the pics except for the rims. They're NISI sprint. The tire bedding is actually drilled to shave off some weight.

Also. Take notice of the narrow rear spacing. Measured with my Mitutoyo digital caliper to be 112.3mm. Not many 110mm hubs available so I re-spaced the original 120mm hub down to 111.8mm. Gave it 0.5mm slack just to make it slide in a little easier ;-)

Pics are of course clickable

Brekkestø

Brekkestø is a small village on the southern coast of Norway, in the region known as Sørlandet. It is a part of the municipality of Lillesand, which is in the county of Aust-Agder.

The village is actually located on several rocky islands, and many of the homes built around its compact harbour are white wooden cottages with red tiled roofs, typical of the area.

Brekkestø has a reputation for being both rustic yet exclusive, and as such, it is a popular destination for summer vacationing. Brekkestø is often cited as an “idyllic pearl” of Southern Norway

Enjoy these few pics taken just outside our summer house.

Some more pics....

Finally the summer revealed it-selves with the best weather so far, so I jumped on the bike hitting for the same route as I did the day before yesterday. Managed to take a few better shots this time. Avg speed: 16.5mp/h, distance: just below 37 miles.

Sunday Ride on my CX

In what must be a typical MTB terrain

This one here doesn't look very steep, but believe me. It is. One of the few walking parts of the trip. It might be ridable with some lighter gearing than 38/28 and some sticky low inflated 2,3" tires.

Going into the Norwegian woods.....

Nice scenery :-)

A day at the Zoo & Amusement Park

Well. Two days actually. Spent with my daughter,GF and her aunt.

SS/Fixie - The Wheels

Well OK. I already had some wheels done, and this bike should of course be fully campy track equipped as they all used to be back in the days. Anyways. In the mean time. Waiting for someone to throw me some campy goodies but still wanting some nice quality, here's what the wheels gonna be like. Shimano 7600 track hubs and NISI Sprint rims. As you can see, the rims are actually factory drilled to shave some weight. Nice! :-) I haven't decided on the spokes yet, but I'll probably end up using 2-1.5-2 and alu nipples. I might go for a slightly thicker spoke rear.

Project SS / Fixie. Step V

I've been away for a few weeks, and leaving again today. I managed though to take a few shots of the latest upgrade.

Project SS / Fixie. Step IV

First layers of paint..

Project SS / Fixie. Step III

Hmmmmmm.

Kinda took an (un?)expected direction......

This ol' Raleigh just showed up in the mail

Sanded and ready for its first layers of paint.

What it's soon to become....

Project SS / Fixie. Step II

And here's the first update......
Headset, fork, brakes and a hard-to-get 26.2 seatpost

Project SS / Fixie. Step I

First. Go down in the basement and drag out that old blue rusty steel frame with the original yellow paint shining through. Second. Sand it slightly, get it cleaned up and paint it red. Wheels will of course be handbuild. 32 spoked high flanges with a flip flop rear. And no. That's not the fork I'm gonna use...

My Bikes in their summer dress

Here you see both my favourite bikes in their summer dress. It always feels good to shave of the extra weight of the winter dress. They're both equipped with tubular tires from Tufo. I haven't cared to have them on the scale yet, but I think the CX is a good pound lighter compared to last year.

CF Wheels

Here's some pics of the finished CF wheel set.

Weight: 1266g (scaled)

Everyday Road Wheel Set

These are to be my everyday set of road wheels. Build up around Velocity Escape tubular rims and White Industries LTA (Ti) hubs. Laced up with oval spokes.

Weight: 1440 grams (scaled)

Pré view of my new set of wheels II

just figured I'd post the bike with its new CF wheels. Enjoy :)

Tune / Mavic Reflex / Aero spokes II

Just figured I'll give you a view of the finished build

Real weight is 1402g (scaled). 12g more than estimated

Tune / Mavic Reflex / Aero spokes

That's what my next build's gonna be. Here's a little teas of the hubs. It is to be my every day pair of wheels with no weight limit, stiff enough for some serious sprints and estimated to hit the scale at 1390 grams. Not too bad for a strong 32 spoked front and rear set of wheels. And the price? Ha ha. I never talk about price, but I can say it's below half the price of what an online store would charge and waaay cheaper than any LBS.......... As all my builds are ;)

Pré view of my new set of wheels

Turned out to be 4 grams heavier than estimated, but 516 grams' still pretty light for a 24 spoked wheel. Rear wheel hit the scale at 750 grams sharp. Leaves a total for the set at 1266 grams. 1 gram less than estimatet !!

'Portable' Truing Stand mkII

Well hello again there.

Instead of moving the floor lamp to the working area all the time, I added a small light. Being able to see the rim really helps. The light is a 1W high quality LED with a narrow reflector powered by a 2200mAh Lithium ion cell. There's also mounted a three step intelligent charger to the stand. Clever, isn't it. Yes, and the top of the light is flexible so I can turn it toward the bearing press/puller or were ever else I would want to.

Someone Insisted to Purchase my CF Wheels

.....And as the nice gentleman I am, I gave him a go. This of course means I'm in need of a new strong-High-Performance-good-looking-much-better-than-I'll-ever-need set of bling wheels.

I'm making use of same rim for the rear but the lower profile Winium, same as the Campa Hyperon, for front. And. White Industries Hubs. I was original thinking of using DT 240s, but fell for the bling look of the Whites. Also it will make a stiffer wheel with 11% extra flange distance and 22% more flange diameter. I will of course also use silver spokes and brass washer on the spoke heads to make them even stronger an give that little extra bling. I added a picture of a set with black hubs and spokes just to give you an idea of the build.

There's a slight weight penalty on the hubs, but I'll take it in on lighter spokes and one lighter rim, so the weight will be approx the same 1295g as the others but with less rotational mass. I can see I've pictured the wrong rear hub. This one's the right one. It's also a few grams lighter :)
